What a special treat to get to share with you! These are Dango, those squishy little mochi dumplings on skewers you see all over the place in Japan. Sometimes they have a filling, sometimes they're pink, white, and green, and sometime they're covered in syrup. They're most often sweet but sometimes savory, and they're a traditional type of Japanese sweet (wagashi) to enjoy with tea. As is with most Japanese wagashi, they're not too sweet and always a little earthy.
These dango come with two bite-sized dumplings on a skewer, made with mikan (mandarine orange) & mochi dough around an orange rind and sweet bean paste filling. The filling is pretty small though and is mostly there to enhance the textures. They're made in Kyoto, the epicenter of traditional Japanese wagashi by a sweets shop called Kyoto Takara.
These are a special treat to say thank you and happy new year! Enjoy while supplies last!
